Soccer Rules and Terminology
Foul
A foul occurs when one player kicks, trips, jumps in/at, charges, strikes or pushes an opponent.
Not all contact with another player is considered a foul. Soccer is, to some degree, a contact sport. When you have two opposing players trying to take control of the same ball some degree of contact will likely occur.
The referee will use his or her judgment to determine if there was a foul.
